Help Topics:
Submitting headline events for CJC's front page

There are 2 types of community event headlines:
  1. Headlines with additional descriptive text - clicking the headline toggles whether the text is shown
  2. Headlines linked to a web page - clicking the headline jumps to the designated page
Please follow the CJC guidelines for submission, including the specified subject line. Headlines should include the date on which the event begins, a BRIEF headline about the event, and may include additional text or a link.

Submitting calendar events for CJC's Community Calendar

Please follow the CJC guidelines for submission of Calendar events, including the specified subject line. Calendar events may also include a link to another site for additional details about the event. In order to add or edit events in the CJC Community Calendar you need to have Javascript and cookies enabled (for www.c-j-c.org). Please refer to the sections:
Entering/editing calendar events on CJC's Community Calendar

To enter events: The above steps create events on your local computer, stored in cookies. These events are only visible in that user profile in that browser on that specific computer. To share these events, please refer to Exporting and emailing calendar events to CJC

Exporting and emailing calendar events to CJC

To export your events and email them to CJC: Clearing the cookies is important - if you do not clear the cookies, you may accidently re-send the same event(s). Also, once the events have been posted onto the web site, you would see the events listed twice. If you DO see the events twice, and if clearing cookies (and refreshing the screen) does not remove the second copy, please contact web support in case the events have been posted twice. (You can also clear cookies via your browser.)

Exports from CJC's Community Calendar

Web site support
Some support tasks are outlined below:
Initial setup of the support image

Set up a test area so you can preview changes before uploading them for the world to see. You should re-do this periodically to make sure that your image is current. Also set up a backup area to save your work.
How to update the web site (www.c-j-c.org)

This method uses MS Internet Explorer 6; it is used to update the front page headlines and calendar events.
How to add emailed events to the calendar

The new short procedure is to copy and paste the events directly into cjcevents.js, check it and upload it:
Entering/editing calendar events

To add, edit or delete events in the calendar directly (ie not copy/paste from email):
Adding Jewish Holidays and Secular Holidays

There are 2 holiday files, containing holidays in the format which is used for 'Email-to-CJC events'.
  1. Jewish holidays for 2004--2014 are stored in hyjhol.js. This file is stored on the website (and thus in c:/cjc/hyjhol.js).
  2. Secular holidays for 2004--2014 are stored in holiday.js; this file is also on the website and in c:/cjc/holiday.js.
Periodically (e.g. each year) simply copy and paste selected upcoming holidays from these files into cjcevents.js. The procedure is exactly the same as adding emailed events (per How to add emailed events to the calendar). The only difference is that you are copying from files opened in notepad, rather than from an email message. In detail:
Adding Newsletters to the Newsletter page

Simply edit newsletters.html to add a link to the new .PDF newsletter file, and then upload both the updated web page and .PDF file to the website. In detail: How to add headlines, text and links to the front page

The basic procedure is to type (and/or copy and paste) the text into the edit box, save the updated text into a special file and upload it to the web site. The new short procedure is:
